Sara’s blog about the researching rural community development in Balaton-felvidék

I am still hopeful that Spring is just around the corner- even with new snow on the ground this week!

This past weekend was full of Éltetõ-felvidékért experiences. My family and I enjoyed the 1848 Memorial Celebration here in Sümeg, and were very impressed with the orations, music, and dancing. Then on Friday we attended the Tapolca Expo with many other people from the region. I was glad so many people came out to support local business and neighbors. We tried méz, csoki, bor, and szalámi, admired musicians and handicrafts, and took special note of the members of Éltetõ present at this inspiring event. Even though we didn’t understand everything said on stage we liked seeing videos of the artisans at work and were glad to see them take so much pride in what they do. Small businesses can be hard work, and it I like seeing them celebrated at events like the Tapolca Expo.

On Sunday we traveled to the Lilliomkert Piac, hopeful that we wouldn’t be the only ones there after a new dose of snow! Clearly we aren’t the only people who enjoy tasty food and handsome crafts- there were lots of people and vendors. Again, we paid special attention to the vendors with the Vidék-Minõsége signs on their booths! And we are so glad we did! We came home with more cheese and bread than you can imagine, and tucked a few special jars of lekvár and kolbász into our baskets as well as fresh greens.

For one more food-oriented outing we headed toward the shore of Lake Balaton and visited the Fék Prima, and Éltetõ Pont, where so many beautiful and tasty products are displayed with pride. Needless to say, we have been eating well this week, appreciative of the hard work so many of you do to provide beauty and nutrition for our family to enjoy.

Thank you!
